My Professional VS Clean Recommendations for Fine Hair With Normal to Oily Scalp and Dry Ends

My Professional VS Clean Recommendations for Fine Hair With Normal to Oily Scalp and Dry Ends

When choosing the right shampoo and conditioner, I look at the hair's individual needs rather than assuming every product in a routine has to serve the same purpose.

For fine, color-treated hair with normal to oily scalp and dry ends, my goal is to cleanse the scalp effectively, add moisture where the hair needs it most, and protect the lengths without making the hair feel heavy.

Here is how I would approach a routine using VS Clean products.

Step 1: Choose Your Shampoo

I would consider two options: Volume and Shine Shampoo or Keratin Therapy Shampoo.

  • Volume and Shine Shampoo: An option to consider when lightweight cleansing, volume, and shine are priorities.
  • Keratin Therapy Shampoo: An alternative when the hair needs a little more conditioning support.

The choice depends on the hair's condition and how it responds to each formula. For someone with an oily scalp and fine strands, I would pay particular attention to how clean and light the roots feel after washing.

Step 2: Choose Your Conditioner Based on How Much Moisture You Need

This is where I would personalize the routine.

For lighter conditioning: Keratin Therapy Conditioner

If the hair needs some additional conditioning but you want to maintain a lighter feel, I would start with the Keratin Therapy Conditioner. I would concentrate it on the mid-lengths and ends, using an amount appropriate for the density and condition of the hair.

For more intensive conditioning: Repair Mask

If the ends are particularly dry, damaged, or in need of more conditioning, I would consider the Repair Mask instead.

The important distinction is that a mask generally provides a more intensive conditioning treatment than a standard conditioner. With fine hair, I would adjust the amount and frequency to avoid a heavy finish. (just ends)

Step 3: Add a Protective Leave-In Routine

For additional conditioning and protection, I would consider combining three VS Clean products:

  • Marula and Hemp Nourishing Oil: One pump.
  • Keratin Therapy Leave-In Conditioner: One pump.
  • Elixir 11: Eight to fourteen pumps.

These are the amounts I would recommend within this routine, adjusting them to the individual's hair length, density, and condition.

Fine hair requires particular care when layering leave-in products. Although the goal is to provide moisture and protection, using more product than the hair can comfortably accommodate may leave it looking flat or feeling coated.

I would distribute the products evenly through the lengths and ends, keeping the application away from the scalp. I would also verify the manufacturer's directions for each product and avoid assuming that every combination is appropriate for every hair type.

My Professional Philosophy: Customize, Don't Overload

One of the most important lessons I bring to hair care is that moisture and weight are not the same thing.

Hair can need conditioning without needing a large amount of product. It can also have an oily scalp and dry ends at the same time.

That is why I approach the routine in stages:

  1. Choose a shampoo based on the scalp and the hair's cleansing needs.
  2. Choose a conditioner or mask based on the condition of the ends.
  3. Add leave-in products according to the hair's need for conditioning and protection.
  4. Adjust the amount of product if the hair begins feeling heavy.

For fine, color-treated hair, I would rather build a routine thoughtfully than overload the hair in an attempt to solve every concern at once.

My goal is hair that feels clean at the roots, soft through the ends, and protected without sacrificing its natural movement.
